We are thrilled to announce our next Cherishing Our Planet event guided by Rick Beaver of Alderville First Nation.

There is something magical about the date at which the calendar informs us that one season ends and another begins. Take the 20th – 21st of September for instance, the date of the year’s autumn beginning. To be sure, the daylight hours have been lessening since late June and will continue to due so until the first day of winter in December. Come join us to witness the Monarch butterfly migration over the field of asters and goldenrods, the mounting restlessness of migratory bird flocks, precocious colouring of deciduous shrubs and trees and the often-unmistakable reds, oranges and yellows of ripening fruits. Seeds, the plants’ hedge on the future, are everywhere – and some may even have begun to sprout already. The segue to autumn has begun.

Your Guide is Rick Beaver. Rick is an internationally recognized Mississauga Ojibway elder, artist and ecologist from Alderville First Nation in Ontario. His diverse involvements have included consultations in aboriginal tourism, the arts, cultural history and ecosystem restoration and Species at Risk recovery efforts. He has been an ecology tour guide both in Canada and Mexico and host for “Spirit Walks”, an aboriginal tourism initiative for First Nation communities. In past years, he was as a member of the design team for The Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario and served as the research and restoration coordinator for Alderville First Nation’s Black Oak Savanna for many years.

This event will be held at 2429 County Road 25, Castleton, Ontario. The land features over 100 acres of tranquility for you to rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul in rolling hills, peaceful trails, gardens, forest, and more.

Note that hiking difficulty is mild to moderate and will involve climbing some slopes. If you are a distance away, you are welcome to book accommodations on site (cabin or a room in the farmhouse) by booking through Fells Meadows www.fellsmeadows.com.

Should the day be one of very heavy rain, the rain date is Sunday, October 6th. Ticket holders will be informed at least a day prior to October 5th if we are going with the rain date.

Only 15 tickets will be sold. The price includes a nature walk, discussion circle and lights snacks and refreshments. We suggest waterproof hiking footwear and clothing and to bring water in a reusable container.
