Seasoned Singer-songwriter Kim Doolittle has a hell of a voice and strong songs to match. The list of people she’s worked with over the years would make your hair curl. Kim used to live in Port Hope, but moved back to her home province of Cape Breton will be popping by for a rare local performance.
If you like traditional Irish or northern English music, you will be knocked out by brothers Arlo and Jem Quilley. They play fiddle, pipes, whistles, and piano. They sent me the bio below, but I’m going to say something first. Steáfán and myself met them at workshops we were teaching when they were still in single digits, and were impressed with the talent, skill and enthusiasm of these little people. Now they are young adults and mind blowingly good at their craft.
“Born in England, brought up in Canada and steeped in traditional music from a young age, brothers Arlo and Jem Quilley have never been quite sure if they’re coming or going. Playing piano as well as whistles and both Uilleann and Northumbrian pipes, Arlo has toured America with The Step Crew. Jem’s musical heart is in Northumberland UK where he learned the extensive regional repertoire and style from legendary fiddlers such as Kathryn Tickell and Stewart Hardy. Performing as a duo, the brothers weave together tunes from their Canadian and Northumbrian roots and combine them with original material for a unique sound.”
